Superintendent Grant Hegenauer

Superintendent Hegenauer began his role with BCPS on July 1, 2025.

Grant Hegenauer brings more than 30 years of experience as an educator, administrator, and leader to his role as Superintendent of Bay City Public Schools. A Tri-Cities native and former Varsity Soccer Coach for BCPS, Grant’s career has been guided by a deep commitment to student success, community collaboration, and instructional excellence.

His diverse background includes 15 years as a classroom teacher - earning two Teacher of the Year awards - and service as a U.S. Army Drill Sergeant. He has held leadership roles as a principal, Career and Technical Education director, and most recently, Superintendent of Frankenmuth School District, where he implemented the district’s first strategic plan in two decades and introduced the nationally recognized High Reliability Schools™ framework.

Known for securing over $1.5 million in grants and launching innovative programs such as Early College and Drone Aviation Certification, Grant’s leadership has consistently produced measurable gains in student achievement, graduation rates, and community engagement. He was honored as Michigan FCCLA Outstanding Administrator of the Year in 2017.

Grant is committed to empowering educators, expanding student opportunities, and fostering strong community partnerships to support the district’s mission. His collaborative, data-informed approach is rooted in the belief that every student deserves the chance to thrive.
