- An activity/experiment that dissolves sugar in hot water and forms edible crystals on a paper clip. Includes discussion of saturated solutions and precipitation. Requires adult supervision because of hot water.
- Glitter Globe - Changes in Matter (IV.2.E.2) New
- This activity allows students to mix rubbing alcohol and vegetable oil into a tall skinny jar. Small objects such as beads, sequins, glitter, or other shiny things are added to the mixture. Food coloring may be added to enchance the affects.
- Homogenous and heterogeneous mixtures - Changes in Matter (IV.2.E.2) New
- This activity requires lemon juice, cooking oil, chocolate syrup, and milk. The activity explores how mixtures can be homogenous or heterogeneous. The project is user friendly and has other interesting science activities and movie clips.
- Outrageous Ooze - Changes in Matter (IV.2.E.2) New
- This activity combinds cornstarch, food coloring and water. The site has a great explanation of why the mixture reacts the why it does. Make sure you have plenty of newspaper on hand and a good surface to play on. You might want to have the students wear old clothes. Allow plenty of time for fun.
- Salt Volcanoe - Changes in Matter (IV.2.E.2) New
- Students will need salt, water, and food coloring to add to a jar. The result are a simple version of a lava lamp. A good explanation is included in the site.

- This is an activity where students learn the secrets of magicians who can "transform" water into wine by changing it's color with phenolphthalein to induce a chemical change in the water and change the color to a deep red. The site explains what compounds are needed and the science behind it.

- This acid/base activity covers chemistry concepts and adds a touch of Language Arts with a student skit that uses the chemistry concepts. - This site describes the how and whys of the bonding process. The text is large and clear. Students will be aided by large color line drawings which have been included to illustrate the process being described. At the end of the text students are invited to click an "Atomic Pop Quiz" on what they have just read. After answers have been submitted to the site, the correct answers are displayed.

A series of cards representing common anions and cations are used. Each card has both the symbol and name of the ion written on them. These cards can also be used as an assessment task where students discover the 'rule' for writing chemical formulae for themselves. Some common anions and cations are represented on linked pages and are ready to be printed out and photocopied onto overheads for demonstrations or onto coloured card for students to cut out and use.
